TRYTEACHING ON A PAID INTERNSHIP AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE
A TERM IS ALL IT TAKES
TryTeaching was perfect for me as I loved the idea of teaching although I didn’t have much experience in the classroom, so TryTeaching helped me to make a more informed decision about my career and future. By completing the GTI Programme, regardless of whether I decided teaching was definitely for me, I have gained valuable skills that will increase my employability. It’s encouraging to know that I will be supported through a school led ITT application or through the Assessment only route should I choose teaching.
TryTeaching is very beneficial for participants as it enables them to get to know more about teaching by means of in-job training. This is otherwise quite difficult. TryTeaching offers real flexibility by presenting candidates with a wide range of teaching opportunities from which to choose, while allowing them to track their progress and build up their CV through the badge system. This system is particularly well-suited for individuals like me who are potentially interested in training as a teacher in due course.
I think the best way to learn something is by doing it. I like the fact that TryTeaching is predominantly classroom/ hands-on experience based. Being within a school and getting to know students and staff as I built my confidence and developed as a teacher appealed to me more than a theory-based approach.
I decided to opt for TryTeaching as I was looking for more of a deeper experience to make sure that a career in teaching was for me. I was given the opportunity to build confidence and discover what teaching at primary school level in the UK is really like so that I could make a more informed decision about my future.
